the year is almost over and lots of stuff going on

the house is full of guests - even enrique fromthe coop is here since his house is being fixed up. in 6 months they intend to return !  he is over the being boss stuff. says he wants to return to diving for abalone :)  and have his day be done at 10 a.m.  CAN YOU BLAME HIM ??????

lots of people like the sheep idea. i have been getting emails back and forth and they are all good. question like how is the road ?  can I take my pets ?  is there hot water ?

marcelo and cindi had lunch with us today. it was really nice to see them.  we caught up on al lthe news. this didnt seem like such a good year for them altho they got some mega traveling in - they went to argentina to see his dad and cousins in buenos aires.

it was a very warm day all day. not a breeze and ever so quiet.

i did get together a bunch of presents for the orphanage in la mision. one day i would like to visit it - the door of hope.  i gave them some of the presents i bought for juliet and wendy. i think the orphans are way more important !!

My son turns 27 today .... amazing ..... talked to him yesterday and he is still learning some life lessons. It is so hard to grow up and make mature decisions...

life is quiet here - the wind has stopped. Les is in Abreojos paying the phone bill. the sky is a gorgeous color blue. It is warm in the sunshine and I am on my way to pot plants, water the other plants with recycled water, clean the rooms where we have 3 guests for a couple days.

then off to teach those wonderful lovely kind attentive teens English. RIGHT !!!!!!

well, well, well antonieta saw a mountain lion at the dump last week !!!!  so we guess that this is why all of a sudden Rex decided he would not go running towards north with Les !!!  mystery explained. poor Rex. Les forced him into the car and let him off north of us so he would get a good run in . how were we to know there is a loose mountain lion !!!

emails back and forth on kenny and his house. turns out there is a warrant for his arrest. andres stopped the police from carrying out the warrant. can you imagine ?????????????  

i taught today and the classes went really well. new strategy has all the kids participating. up front. either they get it or they stay inthe front til they do. that should make some of them smarten up !!

sorry i didnt get to see derek and karla one last time. it was such a fast visit hahaha  I had some moola to send to Mark thru them ..oh well ... it will have to wait ....

the citizens of la bocana have cash to spend on clean up crews. great that it came but sad that it came at the end of the year and sad that so little came thru. someone is pocketing the cash. one month is not enough to really make a difference.

this day flew by. in the morning went to yolis to get our mail and they did not pick it up. figures !! so I called chuey and hopefully he got it on his way home from guerrero negro and off roading tonight.

andres is on his way to la paz with a bunch of kids for qualifiying for they olympics in biking. can you imagine if he makes it. first one in la bocana. homar called and we shall try to get more kids ready to go next year.

i have spent 2 days trying to understand tires.  our tires are getting worn too easily.  it has become a nightmare for us. patches dont cut it. there is too much glass around and that is a fct of life here !!  there is one that claims to be almost indestructible. no matter what the cost, that is the one I am going to convice the kids to work towards getting.

got some bad emails today and yesterday about kennys house. ridiculous and such a waste of time. but sme stuff is getting aired and handled and that is always a good thing.

Day after Thanksgiving

what a day yesterday !!!  the food was so good and the desserts were outstanding !!  so yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

so sorry that Drek and Karla did not come early and hang out with us ... but then again, we thought the boys would be fishing until late and not want lunch until late !!  the oven at the copa works at a higher temp than ours here - which made the tueky a little dry. oh well !!

this sunday we will have a mega lunch for the boys and girls inthe bike club here at the house with the leftovers !!  sounds like a very good plan to me !!

class today and i will prepare a little exam for them.  good to keep them on their toes !!

it was so fun having the house full. i do wish time didnt fly so quickly. the best part is that each one gets to do their own thing. go over to domingo's house. visit joaquin. visit juanchys.  hand out at the beach. read. take Rex for a walk. this year is very cold so walking on the beach was not fun.  the wind is horribly cold. today is warm figures. the day everyone leaves.

i believe our mail got picked up.  it is at el crucero waiting for us.

i talked to Rafa briefly yesterday. he didnt go to san diego and didnt celebrate thanksgiving since he perhas had a job today. he needs to get in gear and get a better job. life is passing this kid by. such a shame.

no chance to talk to marc. he did not call and today he did not anser when we tried.  north korea attacking south korea is not part of the plan.

aziz and afsaneh are taking my xmas cards to be mailed.  they also donated $400 to the cause betweent hem !! what angels. what amazing friends. I tell yiou  all. the more you give, the more you get. all my life it has been  this way.

miss my mom and am glad that she heads back to san diego Dec 10. :))))))))))))))))

brazil has a new female president - dilma rousseff. seems that she is of bulgarian descent and their whole country commemorted when she won. kinda fun to have that connection. ana told me that the current presdient, LULA, has cut poverty by 60%. the reason that brazil is one of the countries that is NOT going thru a recession is that we have, for the first time ever, a middle class. and this middle class has buying power. the good news is that rouseff says she will continue to fight until the last 40% of brazilians are not living below poverty. we need to get rid of illiteracy too.

i am watching the news and north and south korea are at war - Marc is there - this is scary. i so love my son so much. please Lord, take extra special care of him.  north accuses south of attacking first. 1953 marked the end of the korean national war.china has asked both sides to remain calm. apparently they support the communist north. Barrack Obama says that he will support south korea. th is is being classified as the most serious incident since cease fire in 1953 without a peace agreement.

duncan came today and he got a bike !!  i am sooooooooo happy. he has come and come and come over and over for the last couple months and i did not have a bike for him. they were either too big or too small or someone else was in line. today was his day. yahoooooooooo.

we have a full house and i love having these guests over - they all have their own routines and it seems to fit so comfortably into our routine. i am excited about thanksgiving. this year it will be a big affair as always but the cooking started today !!! applesauce is ready. cake tomorrow. pumpkin pie tomorrow. turkey and stuffing. veggies. mashed potatoes.cranberries.

we have agreed that the boys will not go fishing tomorrow and will visit campo rene. then on thursday they will go fishing and we will do a late lunch at 3 pm.  sounds like a great plan. it wd be great if les went fishing with them !!

when i opened my emails this morning there were 3 messages from pompano. he wanted to go to chris's house and get the mail and meds !!  he will do it since his car is ready. the motorhome is not but he left it. he will pick the stuff and drive down on thanksgiving. pack his bags and head for italy !! I am so luckt that he offerrd to do this, for one of us wd have had to go to san diego otherwise....no other way since les cannot be without his medication ....obrigada Deus !!

2 days thanksgiving

les and the gang are all up at kennys house. there is a huge party with tons of people and tons of booze. i think this is great for kenny.

the gusy went fishing today and filled up their cooler with fish.  a thirty pound yellowtail !!

derek stopped by to say hi today .. funny to see him in scotts little scooter !!  and i think it is so neat that he stopped by. such a la bocana neighborly thing to do !!!

got some news from mom. boy, she is writing so little these days.  she must be busy with bruna and chris. i miss her terribly. she is always writing and keeping in touch when she is home :(

the kids have been stopping by for bikes. I must get Duncan over here tomorrow  as he is the first to be able to choose. the others, I have determined, have to bring their bikes and i want to see  the state of the bike and take a picture. we are at the end of the search for bikes and i want to get a sense of accomplishment.

we need to go over rules with them as well..... cant hurt. i also want to raise money before the first race in january.

it is so fun having a full house. i love the company. i love that they are independent. i love that they brought a ton of goodies and that we get to share those goodies hahaha

it is looking like either bajagringo or pompano will be bringing our mail.  need to get les's meds here. i am so sorry that it has come to this. my bad.

the copa cabana gand left fpr campo rene. theyhad a wonderful time at joaquin's - loved the food and the company and made anew best friend with joaquin !!  they are not sure if theya re acoming back so I got the key and left the door open for them .... and did not touch anything and will not touch anythign til tomorrow morning.

anee and harry are still no shows ... maybe they meant la bocana Baja Norte and are totally lost ???  i do not have their email, so i have no idea if they wrote

Mike who is walking down Baja is now OK. he sent out the emergency signal. turns out he was out of water. it was a major ordeal to get to him .... and 2 search parties went. the first found hima nd gave him water, the second never made it but boy did he try !!  his name is Ron and he goes by BajaGringo on bajanomad. he really went all out to find Mike. really nice of him.

arthur from england just wrote...he calved 6 calves yesterday. that is a lot of calving !!!!  genesta was kinda feverish yesterday and they did not go to the diver's dinner. Louis is at home since he is searching for a house to buy.  Lydia was fine but had not checked in for 2 days. arthur sounds tired.  he says that it is not just the calving but all the other little things that must be done in order to ensure the calves stay healthy.

i talked on the phone to Ana today. she had so much fun in europe and we agreed that we will caravan down in december, right after xmas.  this will be so fun :)  They will hang out til after the new years !!

Les is still inpouerto nuevo and the hwole gang should be here soon ... I have the lasagna in the oven and we are good to go.

well, Les and Panch left this morning for Puerto Nuevo, for an over night trip. They meet up with the Thanksgiving gang - bet they are eating lobster right now and enjoying a beer along with it !!

Harry and Anne have not shown up - they are supposed to stay for 6 days ????  Strange and I am about to go upstairs ....

We did have a surprise -  Jenny and Nick, Bill and Pam who popped on over for 2 days. I have put them in the Copa, since its next guest comes on Monday. Pam is a pilot.   Gave Jenny some quilt pieces that I saved for her ... there were 2 people who did quilting - the ones in Punta Chivato have moved away so Jenny became the lucky winner.

Houston - we have a serious problem. Christine just put my mail out and never advised Derek,. I thought he had picked it up but guess what .... I am sure it is still sitting outside her house.  Now I have to find someone else who is coming. crappola.  I have a totally useless sister. she is so lazy and so unhelping. she will never go that extra step. never. how did two sisters grow up so decidedly opposite? hard to fathom, really.

Derek and Karla, her mom and her daughter are in town. They were all over at Joaquins having luch - that is the first time I have seen him making lunch unless it is a governor or other politician.

The Iraquis left for home in the end. Didnt want to stay another day. They caught 10 yellowtail though !!  amazing !!

yahooo it is Friday

we just got 2 guests in and they are from Iraq !!  very interesting. they have never been here before but one of them met an American in san diego who told them about punta abreojos and la bocana and they came ...  they are gungho to go fishing, very sad cause we know there is NO fishing. domingo's son will be taking them.  They were smart and made reservationf for 2 more days  in guerrero negro, just in case they could not find anywhere to stay here in bocana.

english classes went well today. the third level is really into it and they are so good and learning fast. very rewarding as a teacher. their books are jokes . there is not one page that does not have gross horrendous terrible mistakes on it.

derek and karla and her mom should be pulling into la bocana tonight - or maybe Derek will stay in san quintin ???  frank and ernesto and aziz should also be on the road tonight.  they will probably meet up at jardines !!

it is almost Friday and most of the worls is very happy tonight because of this !!

went to see Julio today and he always tells me so many stories.  today he told me that his whole family of over 500 people showed up when his grandmother died.  he sais a whole truck of flowers came from ensenada to honor her years ago when she passed. he says that Mexicans believe that when they visit the cemetary on nov 2, it is because they think the spirits come to visit them. and  itis dishonorable not to visit the relatives when they come.

he is thinking of doing a liposuction his sister is too.

finally got the biosphere bracelets handled. frank and ernesto and azis will purchase them at the restaurant. thank you Rebecca for taking care of this !!

the kids will all have bikes by next Monday. I cant wait til I can breathe a sigh of relief.  I have officially started campaigning for skateboards now !!!  This is going to be way cool.

Deise called on skype today and they are coming at the end of December. I wrote to wendy to see if she can help aaron get a job. he is a teacher and has been unemployed for a year. that is just absurd.  how can one live like that ? what about self esteem ? what about bills ????

this morning I did laundry since we assumed the water guy would come. tow loads and he did come yahooo !! both houses got water. we are good to go.

Pancho's brother died in ensenada and they brought the body here at midnight night before last and buried him yesterday. pancho said he was up all night and they reminisced about the brother. 

a story: when they were young, they were quite poor and the 3 eldest had to sleep together. there was only one blanket and the 2 on the ends would wrap it around them selves and the one who died would be stuck in the middle with the blanket high ... leaving him cold.

a story:  the brother had a wife who had a sister who had a baby at ayong age. so she gave the baby to the brother and his wife. they bring up the baby and she calls them abuela and abuelo. she is 5 years old and she told pancho:  I am leaving abuelito here for  you to take care of him. Ok, he told her !!

Pancho brought by Marcos to meet me yesterday - he is the owner of Puerto Nuevo cabanas.  sasys pancho that he was born in san ignacio and has been a hard hard worker all his life. (in spite of the reputation that people from san ignacio have).  he was a good fisherman and lobsterman and now runs his business and does well.  he is panchos dead wife's brother.  pancho told me he met his wife at a fiesta in san ignacio.  and then she came to work as a nurse here in bocana.

kids stopped by all day long and bikes in and bikes out.  we are down to the wire here ... almost every kid is handled.  tunguis brother and sister joined the club, they are very poor and I am happy to support them.  they are the hooligans of town and hopefully we can recuperate them a little.

Duncan does not have a bike yet. poor thing. every time he comes they are too big or broken or too small. please, Lord, one of these new ones has to be for cutie pie Duncan. Right fit. He is such a good soul. Just like his mom.  I really like Renata.

I watered the garden today and there are a couple plants that could use some TLC. tomorrow this must be done. they are not happy. all the plants at the Copa are doing great. I am so happy.  I bought 2 more plants today. It is great cause the guy knows me by name and always comes to me first hahaha !!

the punta chivato group made 3800 dollars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! holy smokes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  and everything was cheap except the TVs and they all went for 250 pesos and there were about 7 of them !!!  other than that, everything else was 10 or 20 pesos max. pretty cool.

what an incredible day .... first off, I finished the book called NOTHING TO DECLARE, a book about a woman who traveled by herself to Mexico and gautemala and honduras. i am glad i read it but the truth of the matter is that she was miss negative and i think she learned not a thing about mexico or mexicans and basically wasted a year of her life. she is a prolific writer and has written something like ten books. i wouldnt waste a penny buying another. this one was lent to me by Gary. we are swapping Baja or Mexico books.

then the boys stopped over to see the bikes and we agreed to have a bike club meeting this afternoon.  i went shopping and the tienda was closed. so i went to Prieto and abought what he had: tons of bananas, tortillas and cheese to make quesadillas, limes to make lemonade, bread to make sandwiches since we have a lot of ham here.

time for a very funny story. at Prieto's, I am loading the stuff into a basket and he says .... you dont use plastic bags, do you ? Nope, and I smiled.

Prieto was the one who made me cry 2 years ago when we spent 2 whole days cleaning around his store and the next day he trew trash - not boxes - plain old trash around the store again. I remember so clearly...I was with Linda and asked to take me to his house where I started to scream and cry: do you think I enjoy picking up your trash ???? how dare you make another mess !!!!!   I was hsyterical. people came out of their houses. I made a scene and he was rude and walked away in a huff. only to return and say he would not make a mess again (he had no choice - too many people were watching). well, he has indeed cleaned up and now he never leaves trash any more !!  BUT guess what he said to me today ???????????????

he says:  Blanca, the people who live behind the church are messy and their trash is coming into my yard.  can you believe it ?  Oh boy. what an about face !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I told him that I would check into it.

what else could I say?

So, a new bike club boy had come by yesterday and borrowed a bike to train on with the promise to return it later on that day. he never came back so we went to hunt for the bike this afternnon. found it at his grandmas house and brought it home. his mom is unhappy with him being out and about and he is NOT to have a bike. grandma said he had to go somewhere and that is why he hadnt returned the bike ... whatever .... i was upset that he promised to return it and didnt.....  No doube he shall visit me tomorrow to ask about the bike.

the meeting went well and all the boys here ate sooooooooooo much i thought they would die. holy makerel. i forgot how much my two sons used to eat. it was unreal.  we had a good time and then good thing started to happen.

along with other stuff we need (tubes, cables, shifters)

and after all this wonderful planning , i get an email from ed that he has 2 more bikes for us - trick bikes.  this after he donated 2 this past weekend and I bought one from the swap met in chivato.

to say i am happy is so putting it lightly. it has been devastating to say to the little ones that i have NO bikes for them. really, really this has been the hardest part. I worked so hard and did all that i could to make the bike scene happen fast .... but God has his way of making it happen as it should.

and we are gearing up for the next project:  skateboards. cheaper. easier for people to bring. and no other village has a team so it will be easy to get people to bring the skateboards down!

now, if I can get my meds, that will be fantastic too.
and if the fish came all of a sudden, that might be good too.
Lord, I give you thanks for all the wonderful moments you give me and the wonderful folks who are making la bocana's dream of having a grand bike team possible.

so much to talk about. we spent the weekend in punta chivato. their sale was stupendous !! they had sooooooooooooo much stuff. most of it was awesome and some of it was most defintely trash.   we arrived the day before so we could go to ray's restaurant. we loved it. i had stuffed shrimp and it was delcioso !!  les had a steak that was great.  the place has so much atmosphere and ray really is the conumate host. it is located wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy out inthe boondocks, inthe middle of an arroyo with fields of produce all around.  we went with bunny and andy. her sister lou. her niece debbie and husband dean. the margarita was good. the food was good, the company excellent.

at home we chatted some and then went to sleep. the next morning - early walk. then cake and strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast and on to the swap meet to put prices on my donations. when we rrived - a huge group already ready to enter !! we decided towait until 11 as planned.  did the tags and then opened the fllod gates at 11.

it was chaos. so many people and only 2 cashiers.

then some people snuck clothes out the back window and i had to stand guard.
who woulda thunk ????

Les bought a ton of stuff and was happy as could be. we got the bike for 2oo pesos, we got a fish, a vase that is from guadalajara i think.  les got all sorts of stuff that i have no idea what it is - we spent over 100 dollars !!!  good cause.  good stuff.  at 12:30, 95% of everything was gone and we started to pack up.

then pancho arrived. he took some stuff and soon left. we were wodnering why he didnt stay for a meal and chitchat ....  it turns out it was due to sad news which he only told us today - his brother in TJ who had battled skin cancer for 14 years, died last night.  they are bringing the body today and burying him tomorrow. very sad.

at the same time, Gary showed and it was too late too. no more hotdogs. no more baked goods.  nothing to eat !!  but he got a pasta maker - instructions in English so I cant sell here. and i was not interested in it. but it came highly recommended and had only been used once. then gary wernt with us to andy and bunny's and they invited him to spend the night with them rather than go to the hotelito which just opened up !!  he is not back yet, i think he is having a good time !!

we saw a lot of punta chivatans that we hadnt seen in 2 years. it was fun. they are a really nice group an dlucky to have each other in their little microcosm.

Russ did not show. he says he is a hermit and he must be. he did not show.

mulege mike did show and he got a bag of stuffed animals and a ton of jackets for the kids in his christmas santa present give away !  such a good cause and I am so happy I could be a little part of it !!

linda came by this morning and she told a sad story. the other day Edith left her car inthe driveway with 3 kids. one of them. little outspoken crazy 6 year old ana, pu tthe car into reverse and it started to back up...linda was running and screaming...edith reached the car, got dragged underneath but avoided it hitting the gas canister outside the neighbor's home, but it hit a water ocntainer which fell down. she was not able to walk, they took her to the seguro and to g negro. she is bruised, able to walk now. what a scare.  i guess the car has a problem in that even when there are no keys, it changed gears ???  that is what they say. second time a disaster like this happens.  crazy scary.

this saturday is herli's baby shower.  linda says she is feeling fine. eating a lot.  talk to her boyfriend every day but they have no plans to get together.

i will make a cake for the baby shower and i will make 2 cakes for punta chivato's bake sale and swap meet.

Les came up with the brilliant idea of us going to chivvato tomorrow - helping with the set up - eating dinner at Ray's.  I wrote to Bunnie and asked her about it, I also wrote to Ed and Jean - it wd be nice to see them too.  He has been so supportive !!

busy day today with 3 loads of laundry - thank goodness armando delivered 4,000 liters of water. he just joined the 2 due us and the 2 due the Copa Cabana and voila. we got a lot of water and i did a looooooooooooooooooot of laundry forma ll the guests at the copa and here this past week.  he says the water plant hose is broken. if it aint one thing - its another.

pancho came for dinner tonight and he will meet us in punta chivato to bring back any donations we have plus the 5 bikes !! yahoooooooooo !!  the pics of the swap meet look fantastic, i will take stuff to donate to the sale, I will bake a cake for the bake sale and lastly, I will meet mulege michael and his wife to deliver some toys since he does a santa delivery every year. i would not even start that project !!!  he says that some kids never got their gift since there were more kids than gifts. i would cry. no way am i going to go down that road but i praise him for dressing up as santa and handing out hundreds of gifts !! and I will support him by donating the stuffed animals that we have.

mike from meg and mike stopped by this afternoon for a beer. he has been busy unloading and organizing their house. he is here for 2 weeks. nice vacation !!

juanchys also stopped by for a quick visit. didnt stay for dinner, but he should have cause it was excellent.

so Les bought me the tape recorder so I can continue the history of la bocana project. i will interview all the old folks to find out what they remember fromt he good ole days. actually, i think they prefer the way bocana is now - life is certainly easier, but i want to catalog their experiences. thanks Les !!

hump day and a lot going on. our guests left this morning for vizcaino.  one of the guys, Gabriel, lost his wallet. we finally got a hold of the guy he was with last night (he is fishing this morning) and he says he never saw the wallet but maybe it fell in his car. which is on the beach and locked. we serached everywhere for the wallet and never found it....gabriel got smashed last night and can hardly remember what happened, but he does remember having it when he got home. or so he thought. he did pay Joaquin. so at that point last night, he had it !!  we have his phone number and will call when it shows up. vizcaino is not too far. next night is BOLA which is also not toooo toooo far.  after that, san diego will have to wait for  the next guest who heads north.

my sister chris is going to brazil on nov 16th. mom is returning from brazil dec 11. i want to go to korea and see marc.  i also want rafa to get a great job. and bruna to find her path in life. happily. i also find it hard to believe that marisa did not come here and take us up on our offer. i guess the good Lord knows what he is doing :)  Must put our trust in him.

on onday i started my third english class at the middle school. it went really well. please God, let it stay that way.

thanksgiving is coming up and les and gusy might go to puerto nuevo first. we have guests coming and i will stay at home. they are first timers !!

i did a 12 page translation today. it was not well written in portuguese and some of the sentences made NO sense at all. so i translated them just like that - making no sense at all. pure jibberish.

la bocana is having a serious water problem. it is beyond ridiculous.

this weekend is the swap meet at punta chivato !!   and there arre 5 bikes there waiting for us !!  yahoooo.

we spent the day in santa rosalia at immigration. what a horror story. they wanted to charge so much for all the different docs we needed. les sat down and said

1. we do not have $2000 plus to spend on this
2. let's move to poland. enough is enough.

i finally talked to the bigwig and he came down with the prices. it is just moeny in their pocket - one of the charges he came down from 10,000 pesos each for 3 years for having our business to 5,000 each total for both and all years. it is bogus but thank goodness, it is over. well, not really, we have to return when he calls us in about 1 to 3 weeks. i cant wait to become a Mexican. i do not like this out out out with the cash and nothing happens. and in reality, it happens a million times faster here than in the states. but i dont like it.

because i wanted everything to be using my brazilian docs, they used my maiden name. another headache.

the photo place is now in a different spot and cost 200 pesos each. another ripoff.

so what was good about the day: we found the chinese restaurant that bunnie and andy recommended and it is really good. i so crave chinese - authentic chinese and now we have a choice !!  Beijing Restaurant will be getting a lot  of customers if it depends on me !!!!!  Baja omads have already heard about it !!

on nov 2, a young , very  young mand died, he was a surfer from Hawaii8 and I guess he was plagued by succes on one hand - he won a ton of medals - and demons from drugs on the other hand.  they found methodone which is what you take if you are getting off heroin (???), if i am not mistaken. those would be some nasty demons if that is indeed the case. a guy did a video in hi s honor and if you watch it, you think that this kid had it made. saddest part - he left a 7 month pregnant wife.

marc and dale and steven left since the waves were to big this morning for them to launch. too bad, it was fun to see them and would have been fun to sit around another evening and watch for the green flash !!

the waves are huge. the sound is deafening.

we have no water and the truck broke down for a couple days .... we literally cannot shower and i cant even wash the dishes. thank god the copa cabana has a container full of water cause that is where i will have to shower tonight.

les and pancho went to vizcaino today. les had to get cash out of the bank and pay the fideicomiso on the house and bring me machaca burritos  !!!  they are great.

i was busy as a bee - i went to see sandra and got our CURPs. i paid the water bill and begged for them to deliver some. even a little. i am sure they wont be here .... not sure what the beef is. the guy gets stuck everywhere so easily and he is making deep holes in our driveway which will get him stuck soon if he is not careful. les tried to explain but the guy has a bad habit - hard to break it and he may be sensitive to les's complaining !! @#$%^&*(  we have no water !!!!!

I also went to see oralia and got the presidente municipal money for lodging with us. i went to see nacho and linda and gave him 2 receipts for clicerio and the 4 others chuey sent to stay with us. see ??? i was really busy !!

well, the year is almost over and wow...what a year.

today we have 3 guests from mulege visiting for a couple days - Marc and Dale and a new guy - Steven.

we also had a visit from a couple who are friends of lyn and wendy preuitt !!  he was the windsurfer - at the time we couldnt remember who they were but as soon as we looked them up, yup !!  they were here and stayed with us. i guess they were on their way here but his brother died. very sad.

i taught today and class #1 is great now.  Class #2 is not paying attention and I hate teaching them ..not good.

next monday class #3 starts. ufffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft Sure hope they are happy as students :)

we need water. hasnt been delivered in a week due to the holidays. we need agua, porfa.

I am trying to get my son Rafa into a new company and with a better job. He is so smart and could and should be making big bucks ...

the waves in la bocana are HUGE. you can hear them slamming the shore. so unusual. tomorrow they reach 9 feet. amazing.

the couple who stopped by to visit are on their way to la ventana and they are big kite surfers too. maybe they can get some people to come here. time for la bocana to get on a roll with more sports since we have so much wind !!

day of the dead

hi grandma. wish you were here with us still.  i miss your baking, your cooking,  your smile, your heavy accent. i miss you.

manny and his family came for breakfast this morning. we all talked and one of his cousins knows people who can help us with bikes. who can help us with kite surfing !!!!  he says they all have equipment that they dont use anymore and that will be perfect for us. who do i get to run the kitesurf classes ??? control inventory and equiment ????  ooooooooooooooooooooo lala, have to think long and hard on that one.

dave and jean are with us for another night. they woke up late. they went shore fishing . i forgot to set them up for dinner. oooops.

ed and jean have 3 bikes for us which arrive next monday. i am so happy. i think then i will have maybe one or 2 bikes to still get.  next project ????  skatebaords. easier. cheaper. but of course we need a U.

i think julian went to the states today. i will miss that biker. he was one of my favorite bike club memebers. i know you are not suposed to favor "kids" and i am sure no one knows it. but he was one of my favorites. you can tell he is just a good hearted soul who will never be mean and will never get into trouble. good head on his shoulders.

the tournament is over and it, for me, was one  of the best. i loved being able to sit and sell and go back and forth to the house and the food was deliecious. i think i enjoyed it because mary and smiley were with me. maybe next year we can do the same ?  we made so much money - more than any of us anticipated !!!

the year is almost over. golly gosh.

today was  a very nice day - in the morning, I  did a load of our laundry and then internet.  after a minute I saw a car drive by. I always get worried when someone goes towards the right - if it is a local or if it is a stranger, you really have to use 4 wheel drive or you WILL get stuck. about 5 min later a couple pulls up. she waits for him to open her car door (hehehem, very cute) and then they come out. it is dave and gene. their first time in la bocana and they saw the B & B sign yahoooooooooooooo and decided to stay the night.  they live in la jolla. i do not think they are married, they are far too polite to each other adn it does not seem like they know each other very well..... when youarea couple, you can almost know what the other person is thinking !!  so i gave them a tour of la bocana. i introduced them to joaquin and we set up dinner. they will go shore fishing together tomorrow. 

then they went for a siesta and  we went to campo rene to have dinner with mary and george, smiley and john. it was sooooooooooooooooo good. steak and an amazing salad (need to buy cranberries) and amazing veggies (need to buy costco 3 small peppers and sautee).  they had made pastel frio for dessert and it was perfect !!!!!!!!!!!!  good job ladies !!!

upon returning to la bocana, we stopped by joaquins to see who was there .... gene and dave were and 2 other guys who were watching the baseball game. musta been an important one - they were riveted to the TV.  soon manny and family came too. they are going home tomorrow. i hardly got to see them but i think they had an incredible visit. kite surfing and fishing and eating and sleeping. they all get along so well. lucky family. very lucky indeed.

the fishing tournament is officially started. the poor presidente municipal got in a 2 a.m. and had to wake up at 7 this morning .... well,  supposedly the tourny was to start at 7 but in reality it ended up starting closer to 8:30 !!  But he was up and at the beach at 7:30 as agreed upon by Clicerio and the delgado Martin.  The folks who were not at our house were all at the beach at 6 a.m. 

Hey, this is Mexico ... who really believed it would start at 7 ???  Well, I did and was up at 5 so that I dwd be ready to photograph the whole scene.

the kids were catching little fish right and left, damian is out there, duncan is out there and his sister Nicole too. ver neat to see little ones participating.

the day is gray gray gray. i have a ton of laundry to do, there is a good excuse as ever not to do it !!

we are doing a bake sale and plant sale at the beach. i sure hope it all sells !!  Mary and Smiley are here to help me out !!

we have a house jam packed full of folks. so exciting. so neat to catch up with everyone.  tom and larry and bill.  then rag and 5 others. then the presidente municipal coming with his family. then manny and family coming tomorrow. full house !!

we went to the beach this morning to give chuck his glasses....the beach is filthy.

i will be leaving in aminute to set up tables etc on the beach to sell.

then i teach from 1 to 2. then i head to the beach to see what we can sell !!  i do hope the obys come and help me out !!

I  got the nicest bike fron AKMAXX. dont know him but he signed the bike and i also heard that ed has 3 bikes for me ... oh my goshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hallelujah. so wonderful. so neat. I am so happy !!

I have been doing gardening like a madwoman - want to seel plants at the signing up for the fish tournament this friday.

I just realized it is adele's birthday - must write and wish her a happy day

the wind is howling outside. just blowing so strong.

well, i heard they may be fishing for black sea bass this weekend for the tournament. one day is OK. all year is not OK.

a little one stopped by looking for abike today. I must have written to over 50 people over the last week. all those who are on bajanomad and say they are coming south get an email. i guess that is one way to become known. i am just afraid that people will be sick and tired of me ... i cant wait till we have enough bikes all around. chega. basta. enough.

i real a long trip report by pompano. too bad he was not a travel writer in his day. he is one of the greatwest writers i have read in a long time. the world flow and you read on and on and on. he adds personal stories to history to botany to whatever else you can thinl of !!  his girlfriend co-pilot is italian. i think she must be a trip. tesoro, tesoro, she calls him. she is crazy about animals and she is very pretty. they seem so happy !!

also read about a restaurant near Mulege called Rays that is supposed to be excellent. it might be  a nice trip to go there one day.

the day started out beautifully today - very nice weather - not too hot and not too cold. did a lot of gardening today. I am trying to prepare for the weekend plant sale to generate cash for the bike club !!

les packed. he went to puerto nuevo with pancho and the doctors. i sure hope they have a grand time. adn that there are not a lot of mosquitos.  i had to teach and of course, people can show up at any time

and so they did. dave and his wife are here and another couple. they are in their motorhome and camper. no hookups yet so really, they are enjoying the view of the ocean !!

i got a call from bill larry and tom. they are coming for the tournament too. how cool is that !!

i am so busy trying toget the last bikes to come in. i dont want to hustle bikes any more. it has been such along long year !!  we are so close to our goal and i just want all the bikes to be here already. the we concentrate on practicing and winning races !!

well, the class I quit on Friday I visited again today. and asked them one by one if they wanted class. about 9 of them said NO. so, i suggested they do something else during this time and their teacher said that they could go and study English with their books on their own !!  They quickly recanted and the class went like a jewel. I will redo the old information and teach one new little thing every day. they are young. they can handle it.

the 2nd class is amazing. i am so happy with them. they are smart. they are motivated. and they are learning and i feel so good about it.

juanchys came by for me to do some printing for him. he is going to sell his  light switches at the tornament. he is making good money on them and paying for his daughter to go to school with the cash. such a smart and motivated man.

I finished Into the Desert by Graham MacIntosh. It was a very interesting book but not well written. It took me a long time to read it. I returned it to Gary and tonight I shall start Journey with a Baja Burro.

we have had a wonderful day today.

first the weather has been jus tperfect.  just a tad of wind in the afternoon, but clear skies all day
then early on Dan and Barbara came over with the new bike !!  it is perfect fo rme and I have decided I will ride it, check it out and if I like it, I will be training so that next year I am racing too. what am I thinking ??????????????????????????????????????  but to tell the truth, I am kinda excited about it !!

so, we put together breakfast for them - coffee and cereal - and chatted onthe front porch. then I took them around la bocana for a reconnaisance trip. they now know where the store is, the school is, the clinic is ..and tonight they dine with Joaquin - boy are they in for a treat.

then the bike club came over and I made 36 quesadillas and lemonade and jello and watermellon. these kids love watermellon. i have never seen anything like it. they devour it !!  I am going to make a point of having it all the time for them ...  Dan and Barbara stopped by as the lunch was starting and they too had some of everything ... I hope I didnt spoil their dinner appetite !!

I have sent out zillions of emails for selling the bike t-shirts and the sales have been awesome. so wonderful, so absolutely fantastic !!

it is friday !!! yahooooooooooooooo !!

 I tested the first English calss today and they were not prepared and I was not happy with their attitude. I fired the class.  Told the teacher that uhnless there was a 100% change in attitude, I really am not interested inteaching them.

Now, the second class is fantastic. I am so happy that they are learing a LOT..  Their teacher got the best grade. He really gets it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  How cool is that ?????????????  I love this class and I have heard that maybe the level three of the middle school will start up ...

weird news - a man was shot 2 times in cabo san lucas as he was walking from a restaurant to his hotel. he is fine but that is horrible.

another shocker - a girl was kidnapped in broad daylight in la paz. happened a week ago. they still havent found her and there were roadblocks put up, but not right away.

linda and nacho and their daughter have gone to san jose to visit the 2 boys for a 3 day weekend. I am happy for them, nacho has been working far too hard.

today DanD is birnging a bike. I have to control myself !!  I want to go over to scotts house and see, but it is too early and they are for sure, to tired to deal with a crazy bike lady today hahahhaaaaaaaaaaaa  NOw, I have been very proactive in writing U2U's to anyone who says they are coming south. They can drop the bikes off at the restaurant. Please God, let  people help me, I can not do this alone. I just can't.

I ordered more t-shirts !!  needed size large - now I have leftover XXL !!  Must find soem big guys to sell to !!  so cool to have good friends who are cooperating !!

it is thursday and we have been waiting for smiley and john and george and mary forever !!  i assumed they wd be coming for lunch and have been preparing yummy food for 3 days ...Les jjust brought up their email and it says they will behere for beers IN THE AFTERNOON. I am so bummed. so , we ate lunch and are hanging out.

ther eis a raging war on baja nomads reagarding the birthdate of mama espinoza. what a waste of time. no thing can really prove anything one way or another.  jeez. inthe real world - hwo cares ??? she wants to celebrate 104 - let the lady celebrate 104 years !!!!!!!!!!

a guy named akmaxx is bringing a bike that he brought up out of the garage !!  I am so thrilled. this is so cool . really fantastic. it is coming all the way from Seattle !!  so I wrote to Chris to see if he can swing a bike or 2 too. that wd be even more fantastic.

la bocana is having some of the most beautiful weather ever. no clouds. amazingly soft breezes. blue skies.

next week les will go to vizcaino to fix the geo tracker. it is overheating mega mega.

tomorrow the school kids have a test in Englsih,. lets see how they do ... I am considering stopping the first class. I have no desire to stress over kids that are acting up. for 30 pesos a student ??? NOT.

well, i had tthree boys here for extra english classes this morning. they are so hard to pin down when they reach this age. it is as if they have a fire under them and cannot sit still for a second. so antsy. so rambunctious. how they learn is beyond me, the girls are so much more mature .... now I remember why I never wanted to teach kids before - it is hard an I take my hats off to any and all elementary school teachers.

so, bajadan is staying at scotts and he is bringing a brand spanking new womans mountain bike. i am beyond happy. i am ecstatic. he says it has been sitting in his garage for 4 years.  if it is big enough for me, i will start riding. i think the boys will get a huge kick out of seeing us ride once I get Les a bike too HAHAHA

what else - juanchys stopped by and they caught quite a bit of yellowtail today. but this year is slow compared to last year. la nina is here and of this there is no doubt.

sad news: I heard from linda that there is an older couple with 2 handicapped kids and the whole family is going hungry. so i sent over beans and rice and meat. (thanks Jay and Victor for the major leftovers).  One of their sons lives with them and works lobster - so he has cash - and he does not eat at home and pays the bills but gives no money for food.  this is unacceptable and i have some thoughts about how to deal with it ... Les, however, does not agree with my tactical idea: put a sign in the tienda de consumo with a basket underneath :  SO AND SO is hungry - pls donate food.

I can guarantee that they will have food taken care of by the end of that day and forever BUT Les is afraid that I will cause problems ....and I will .... but I have never turned away from defending the underdog. However, that being said, I will try and talk to the fisherman lobster guy first.

I am reading Graham MacIntosh's first book about walking down the Baja Peninsula. He sure put himself at risk by not providing for water sources along the way. It is a horrible reading in that he seems so badly prepared ... there is another guy doing the same thing right now but with a burro (which graham also did, on his second time walking, and also wrote a book, which I bought).  This second guy has 3 dogs. I personally think that taking dogs is cruelty to animals. the desert sand is no place for dogs. it just isnt.

there is a homeopathic doctor staying at copa cabana tonight and seeing people tomorrow.  it is the first time such a doc comes to town and eduardo specifically asked me to house her. however, i heard she is charging 500 pesos a  person, so she can pay for her stay ??????    I will probably ask her to pay up ....her name is Dr Leticia.

the t-shirt sales are going really well. i am so happy. this is how i will be able to buy allthe parts the kids need to upkeep their bikes !!  A bajaNomader is oging to donate a brand new bike this Friday. he bought it for his wife and she never used it .... ohhhhhhhhhhhhh my goshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh how cool is that ???

i taught the kids today. they are so hard to teach at this age. i never wanted to teach the young ones.  i am really doing this because i know how important it is for them to learn english. i am good at what i do because i love it so much. but they talk and dont pay attention and if i could, i wd just sit down til the settle down but i only have half an hour.  some are attentive and really are learning. the ones who good off have NO clue as to what i am talking about.  i have to give them a test on friday. we shall see how they do.

i am busy writing toeveryone who comes south about bikes and walmart visits.  i am sure they think i am nuts but if i dont get people to help, there is no way i can continue. since i am stubborn and do not want to give up. i go on.

the next race is soon. turns out the fish tournament will be on a friday and a saturday - 29 and 30 october. i personally think this is fantastic.

yesterday alonso brought the new certificates for the next race. they are fantastic. i am so proud of him for helping out.  really amazing.

i think that victor who was here with jay and the gorup will bring a used bike too. and a trick one !!  he says he can get them in ensenada sometimes if he keeps an eye out.  whoooooooooo hoooooooooooo

maciek, les's brother, told us that the hotel will be finished next year and we want to go for the inauguration.   poland trip via england on the horizon.

we had the race today and it was amazing. much easier to do since we had a smaller group

the church sponsored it, they made ceviche for the whole gang. i tried to sell stuff but there were no people to buy at all. quite odd. but the race was good.  lots of  baby blue colored team racers out there !!  and a couple new kids want to join which is always a good thing.  I sold so many t- shirts and this is just fantastic.  bajanomadders took a bunch, kiu took 2, patricia took 2 ... scott took 1 .... pancho took 1.  out of 24, I probably only have 6 left !!

the guys who were here donated money to the cause - they did not want to take t-shirts - Victor donated 200 pesos and  promised to bring a bike :)))))  a trick bike too !!!!!  kids will love that !!!  and then Jay gave me $20 and will mail the shirts to kiu in hong kong  and patricia in connecticutt

the church is sponsoring a race - i just got asked to make a cake for a raffle. this last minute business is so horrible in my opoinion. but it is the mexican way and i must adjust

i have 24 t- shirts to sell. i hope they sell fast so that we can buy new ones and so make some cashola for the club to buy more bike stuff

just read a scary story that shari wrote on evacuating a 70 year old out of g negro. made me remember my scare with les 10 days ago. we must get medivac insurance. i need to know that he can leave at any minute and be at a hospital within 2 hours. life and death is not to be played with. I love him and love la bocana but if the choice is la bocana or Les, guess who wins out ???????????? no brainer.

we may have a guest coming tomorrow. matter of fact, we may have two groups coming tomorrow. one is baja dan - heard of us thru baja nomad :)    and the other is jay with 6 people and they want the copa cabana. so, it turns out they will have to wait a day since herb and heather are there !!  glad there is competition for the house !! very cool !!!

Edith and Valentin stopped by today. it was nice to see them, it had been a while. they are walking for exercise .... such a healthy couple.  dave should be coming right before the fishing tournament - we are not sure if he will stay til the tournament day or leave one day before.

jaunchy took the gang fishing today. no fish. to speak of.

talked to my friend lynn today and her daughter is getting tens of scholarship offers every day. i am so prud of lynn !!  she really succeeded in her professional life, in her personal life and in life in general !!

I taught today and then kids are learning quite fast. the first class got candy for learning all the verbs, the second class did NOT.  ridiculous. they had so long to study.....

there is a rumor about tuna but it is not confirmed .... it is south of us, but not here yet.

george and mary and smiley and john are trying to get a hold of us ...something aobut dinner - which I think will be tomorrow !!!

well, freddy calles last night and told me that altho he was not happy with the teens, and he is thinking of branching out and only having his club be the younger ones, he is not mad at me. I also showed memo and nacho the note and email which proves that the bikes doanted by mary george smiley and john are in face part of the club and not intended stricly for andres personally. what a mess, and i have come to the conclusion that carlos was at the helm of all our hadaches. thank goodness, it is over. yolie came over today and picked up money for the t-shirts i have ordered, i would like to sell 24 this weekend. we need the boost of cash !!  i have asked dave who will be here within 10 days t bring us tires and patches and chains and a chain fixer. very cool. very cool indeed.

i need the bikes to come down. i am hoping i can coordinate with jose and someone else to do this !!

we walked ont he beach today and there was quite a bit of trash. makes me so sad. and it is only the young ones that go there - no adults ever go to the beach. so, the teens are trashing it up. how frustrating.

a guy named chuck came over today. he is a nomad, lterally, he does not have a house.

oh my gosh !! how cool is it that the Copa Cabana is really being rented out to Herb and Heathere and their 2 kids !!  I feel like it is the first real inhabitant and the house is welcoming them.  I sure hope the shower works out, too bad Les got the gallstone and therefore didnt have time ot fix it already .... which was the plan.

Well, looks like I finally got thru to Nacho about the bikes and how they belong to the club. I am so lucky that I emphasized that with George and Mary and Smiley and John, because to be perfectly honest - never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would have such a serious argument about it ... Carlos is adamant that the bike was given to Andres. Well, why Andres and not Julian or Cristian or any other kid ????  Just not fair and in my world, the kids should earn their own bikes .... just like I planned way back when. First we all work together to get the first not so perfect bikes and then all can work until each one gets a bike. Thanks so much George and Mary and Smiley and John for the bikes !!!  They are awesome and I am so lucky to have friends like you to support us ....

Les has a bump on his arm where they inserted a IV and it swelled up while in the hospital. We are waiting for Dr Romero to come home since he is in la paz til wednesday. At least Les is taking it sorta easy .....

English class went really well today. Finally the kids are picking up on how easy it is !!  They even said today:  This is easy !!!  Yahoooooooooooooooooooo that is my goal and I reached it.  Whew ......

I am worried about Marisa - she is still in los angeles as far as I know and still has no place to stay and who knows if she has picked up the car .... and my son Marc, her husband, in Korea and really not listening to what is going on here ..... his wife is not well .... she is over stressed and not handling life.... my son my son, listen and head what people are telling you.

well, the worst is over.  les passed his gall stone all by himself and there will be no surgery now !!!!  not even the gall bladder will be removed. he is home and healthy and we are thrilled with this outcome.

i am on the hunt for bikes and other sports stuff and mark at UTC is fixing up 3 of them. so nice of him. so very fantasic. now i still am looking for a BMX bike. and bike parts. 

tomorrow, les will visit the kids and i will be herefor my doc appt in hillcrest to biopsy my mouth bump. not fun but hey, better to be proactive.

well....santa rosalia was hot and we hit various places

first the lab which was empty and the woman got our blood out fast.  i have high sugar and high cholesterol. #$%^&*I(

then we went to the ultrasound - Les has a gall stone that is out of the gall bladder, it is near his pancreas and may not be operable ....

but

the doctor also was in a wheelchair, a fancy dancy electric one and i asked him why ??? well, at his rancho, a bag of sand fell on his head and broke 3 vertebrae. He cant walk, has no feelings in his legs.  But, the man was working with an assistant, he was smiling and I am truly amazed at his sense of spirit. he said he woke up in the hospital after fainting after the accident. he realized he could move his hands and not his legs and said thank you God for leaving me my hands....humbling experience, folks, humbling ...

I also had my mamagram and all is fantastic.  Come again in 2 years !! yahooooooooooo

I do have other issues, which i will take care of while we are caring for les in san diego ...

the bike club rides tomorrow, they are all going and they are all excited about winning. they have been training so hard !!  Mary and George stopped by and dropped off a bike !! it is a suiper duper race bike !!!  oh my goshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  Smiley and John brought it ... I am stupefied and happy and wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww They are the BEST.

Les is not feeling well - fever for last couple days and then last night - a pain in the upper stomach.... today dr romero says maybe gall stones or gall bladder infection. so tomorrow we head to santa rosalia for an ultrasound.  i looked up the proper diet and got rid of everything bad inthe fridge. now we are both on a diet.  for sure, we need it.

news about town ???  taught the kdis today, they were quite goofy.  hard to teach young teens.

marc called and he is fine, marisa is in a hotel and will call superxicana later or tomorrow. she is dealing with life and will consider la bocana later...kids kids kids. why do we make life so difficult as a kid. seems to me, life becomes a lit simpler as we age.  things that made a difference, just dont anymore.

shari wrote that sirena was in dire danger with the birth of the baby.  poor thing.   everything seemed so fine until the last minute. my gosh - what a scare.  and some are saying that the c-s ection might have been unnecesaary. i dont think so. one must listen to docs once in while - c-ssections are NOT the norm in mexico like in other countries where the doc wants the easy way out.

so Baby Izaak is here .... welcome to the world.

it is thursday and a lot has been going on.  Jenny and Nick left for Asuncion by quad, there they get their car and drive on to San Quintin where they live.  I saw pics of their palapa outside their yard and it is fantastic.  looks like the perfect place to sit and have a beer and plop in the water - since it is surrounded by water at high tide.  Jenny and Nick met George and Mary when they went to campo rene ... small world ... and they sent a message that they might be out on friday to visit. 

Juanchys stopped by and some Americans are in Vizcaino for the night and will come to see our house tomorrow. 

Alonso is supposed to come tomorrow too.

Bruna, my niece is not doing too well. she is so rebellious still, over her teens but just not a happy camper.  such a waste of time, how do you reach someone who is so unreachable ... She is in Brazil, with my mom, taking care of health issues - serious ones - diseases she contracted while in Africa, I think going there was a huge mistake. sounded so romantic and ended up being one of the most horrible decisions.

one of the most troublesome and endangered of the bikers came to visit me today. since i had leftover pancakes, i gave him to banana blueberry pancakes with syrup on top. He ate most of it and then we looked at BMX bikes that he loves. i want to get him one. i lent him a sleeping bag for him to go to vizcaino in saturday with the kids in the club.  they are taking the minivan and going saturday. we are taking our truck and going on sunday. we hear the race track has been  changed .... which is good to keep kids on their toes but bad because we already went and ran the tradck 2 weeks ago.  Jenny said she has friends who have bikes, wouldnt that just be awesome if she really got me one  or two ?????  so awesome.

Les finally came downstairs, he is feeling better but the fever strikes at night .... I am afraid that it get too high and that I might be asleep at the time. Not good for his heart at all ...

it is wednesday and today is teaching da. the kids are learing fast, it is amazing how fast they pick up. if we taught 7 year olds, all the american kids would be bi- lingual with no problem at all

a guy named GUY left today for Asundion to pick up  his truck and then drive to San Quentin where he and his wife Maggie live. Now the fun part: he and his son opened a school in CHONGQUING, CHINA - called Shelton School of International Language and it is a beautiful place, he says. Teachers get paid about $1000 a month and rent for a gorgeoua apt is $200. So, I am going to trvel there and teach for 2 months !! I am so excited, I can hardly stand it. I will teach and then once I have a place, Les can come and Mom too.  yahoooooooo

NOw his wife Maggie had her arm almost severed by a wire someone had put around their property. she was riding the quad and ran right into it. horrible accident. Before the shcool - Guy worked with dry cleaning. last time he brought tons of bags of clothes, the border hassled hom so much , he never brought more. such a shame.  now his home in san quintin can sleep 26 people !!!!  he used to have a plane.

he came with another couple who are just the nicest people. he is Nicky and she is Jenny. they live in san quentin. she lived in brasil as a kids ince her dad worled setting up settlements for gringoes who were coming to make damns and roads all over central and southa america. she lived outside B Horizonte !!  for 5 eyars !!  form 10 to 15 and then as a teen she lived with grandma in the states to go to high school.   Nick did something with construction. they sound like they have a beautiful home in sa quentin, it is an area of gringoes only.  they have offered us their guesthouse and for sure we shall take them up on their offer.

Les is not feeling well and is spending day 3 in bed, he is better but not 100%.

Dave and Bill left today. they were here for 5 days and fit in so nicely ... their routine was steady and fun. up early, coffee in hand at 5,  off to fish all day,  back for shower and food at Yolie's or nap and then dinner at Joaquin's

they reported seeing all the bikers the last time they came through .... the bike club in action !!!!  and Bill will hit up swap meets and friends in san diego and Dave says there is a swap meet in sanquintin - which i did NOT know !! so, maybe next week we will have some bikes yahoooooooooooooooooooooooooo

sirena is abobut to have her baby. poor thing - she is on day 3 of contractions - time for baby Izaak to head  on out - literally. she is trying not to use anesthesia since the docs have such a bab rep apparently. i personally think she made a big mistake not having the baby in Canada .... no anesthesia here and they are NOT going to let anyone in to watch the delivery. not cool. at least the dad should be able to - if he so desires.

Les is not feeling well today. he is taking Rex for a run and then heading back to bed. tadinho. maybe a cold coming on.

what an incredible sunday

it began by 2 boys - cristian and jesus ismael (new one) coming to the front door early in the morning. i asked if they wanted pancakes since that is what les and i were having for breakfast. so i made the 2 of them pancakes and then they went to see if they could round up some interest in having a carwash.

les and i had our banana pancakes and both started preparing for a lunch today with lilly sara pancho and in the end we invited gary too.  luch was tri tp bbq's, aspecia lsausage, some hotdogs,  kasha, broccoli with cheese, carrot with peach and chocolate cake with whipped cream.  to say it was delicious is an understatement. the meat was cooked to perfection. we forgot to put out the coleslaw !!  i also had some soup - we nev er even served it - the weather was too hot.

after a while, 4 boys showed up - they said they had trained on the bikes and were hungry. much to les's dismay - is topped cooking and made them french toast. which they wolfed down.  then they went on. i asked them to do a carwash but they didnt look too enthused.

we had lunch and the cristian and friend came back. so i asked if they wanted ot do a garage sale. to make a long story short - they did 2 sales . the first gabve so liitle cash and someone suggested we do the 5 pm mass exit. i took over a big sign, a table and the stuff. they sold about 150 pesos - enough for 3each of them to get 50 pesos for their worka nd 50 pesos to pay for cristians registration fee at the races next weekend. pretty cool.

sara is not happy with lilly bieng at home all the time . hahaha,. she was the one who wanted him to quit the job since he was busy all the time. now he seems happier but she really isnt ..

i need bikes urgently. the day fleew away form me. i should have contacted Doug to buy some used bikes before next weekend.

at the end of the day, i gave cristian and his friend some soup and cake. 
dave and bill are happy and going out with juanchys one more time tomorrow
yahooooo - i am so happy that they are happy.

I talked to bill about getting bikes. he is going to help me !!

Les has the quad up and running for the first time in almost a year. it is a great sound ... means quick runs to the beach, means quick runs to the store, means quick and hard runs for Rex.

we had a fire at the house today. Les put some meat fat on the BBQ and walked away to put air in the quad tire. i was in the kitchen putting dishes away, when i hear a loud bang. So, I went outside and there is a huge raging fire ... i start to yell...i grab the extinguisher, scared that the gas tank is going to explode, pop the extinguisher open and nada. I mean, there was no hiss, no liquid. nada. So my thought is that i am using it wrong. panic. screma nd scream and scream and Les does NOT hear me screaming. Linda (neighbor) does not come over, Gary finally hears me and answers, i run to the front and finally Les hears me. I am in a stte of panic and can't even look back at the BBQ.  I run into the house in tears.

truth is: i am useless in an emergency. absolutely useless. Well, between Gary and Les, they put out the fire while I went to the bedroom to thank God for saving our house.

well, the saddest part ?????  the extinguisher was on empty. les thinks one of the kids played with it. that is why it did not work.  our house came SO CLOSE to going up in flames. so close. had the window broken and not only cracked (that was the bang), the fire would have gotten to the curtains and i have seen fires. there is no way to put them out. they are so fast. so fast.  luckily, there is not a sign of wind today.  so the fire raged above the BBQ and not to the palapa leaves.  i cant even imagine the disaster it could have been. my mind will not accept any images.

some of the surf club kids came by today looking for boards and wetsuits. we have boards, we have no more wetsuits.

antonieta, the delegado's wife, came over and we talked a little bit. she is having panic attacks, she feels her body going numb, starting at her feet and slowly rising. we talked about low blood pressure and making sure she is eating at least 5 times a day.  she went to ensenada and they could not find anything wrong with her, i think it is nerves. so, dr blanca recommended walking for pure pleasure. not to clean, but to relax.

it is an exquisite day in bocana and there is not one whitecap on the ocean. there are nice sized smallish waves. the temp is perfect. boy, do we ever live in paradise.

the English classes at school are going well.  it is a hard age to grab. once you grab them, then it is a done deal. but oh to grab their attention and make it last. that is why i did 30 min lessons. short and sweet.

tomorrow we are having pancho and sara and lilly over to lunch. lilly is not longer working the office, i bet he is a happier camper altho' he loved being a boss.

our 2 guests (Dave from san quintin and Bill from san diego) are staying one more night - yesterday they went out with juanchys and loved the experience. today they went to bocanita and are shore fishing. yolie called and they are doing lunch with her - she is making them shrimp.  juanchys came over and they are formally invited to the marinero dinner at 4 pm. Les will be going too. it is a lot of drinking and even more testosterone, i am not interested.

the power went out 2 times last night. the copa cabana renters had told us that there are some lines that spark during the night. i will be calling the electricity company to handle that.

shari's daughter Sirenita is about to have a baby (Izaac) and she has had some labor pains but no baby yet, maybe today is the day ?

it is Friday and most of the world is very happy about that !!

last night we ate at joaquins house. it was a fantastic dinner with sashimi, shrimp, rice, beans, 2 salads and cayo de acha - i have no idea how to spell that, but it was my first time eating scallops and they were melt in your mouth delicous.

we have our n2 new guests who are out with Joaquina nd Juanchys today fishing.  let's see what they can bring in !!

The Copa was approved by Richa nd Rob - main compklaint - the water pressure is not Ok in the shower (easy to fix) and the dogs bark too much (impossible to fix).

Today we had given Carlos (les's helper) the day off since we thought les was going out fishing for the first time in over 2 years, but Juanchys was busy inthe end with these new guys, maybe tomorrow for him and les ???? we shall see.

the bike club is oging to have an extra bike race benefitting the church on october 17th. i am so excited abou this event. it is fantastic that the church wants to buddy up with us !!!  and all the money from the racing will benefit the church.  and this all started when the nuns saw all the kids leaving their start point at the church to go practice riding one day. i have asked them to train together and they are !!!  i guess the nuns were amazed at how many kids were involved and these kids are also going to mass ... see how God works in mysterious ways ?

How do I get the bikes south ??? I found them on Craigs list - I cant get them bought and brought down. very frustrating.

les is putting up hooks and pics inthe new rooms. these are the hooks we bought in Poland. i love it that our house is full of England and Poland and Germany and Italy and Slovakia and Czeck Republic and Mexico and US. Very international !!

Yesterday Mary and George came by right at the poerfect moment to join us for lunch. It was so neat to see them and catch up on life for the past months. She showed me her art and I am just astonished that she only discovered her talent 6 years ago. She is fantastic and could be a millionaire.

A gnetleman called Jerry Gay just called. I had to send him to the ALTA BOCANA since we are already full for the tournament....

big day today

the boys have come over to our house - Rob and Rich who are staying at the Copa Cabana -  and they are leaving tomorrow. it was neat knowing they were down the street. fishing every day. providing the scoop on how fishing is holding up in this cold cold water !

the big news is that juanchys asked les out go fishing tomorrow at 6:30 a.m. !!  first time in 2 years . i am thrilled and cant wait to see what he brings home.  change of plans:  2 guys - one form san diego = BILL and one from San Quintin DAVE are here. they will go to juaquins for dinner with us, they are spending one might - maybe more - and they want to go out tomorrow fishing so of ocurse they need to go with joaquin and juanchys !!!   

marek wrote and house prices for 3 bedrooms in Temecula are WAY down. so now we are looking onto houses, well, he is.  there is no way i want to be in temecula, so we will have to look elsewhere too !! temecula is too hot.  too far. too everything.  but if the kids' rent pays the mortgage ... and we get a 3 bedroom ... then we are all set !! 2 rooms for them and one for us !!!  wouldnt it be a blast to be able to be closer to them ??!! closer to mom. closer to the girls and nieces. too wonderful for words.

so i started teaching today and half the kids there have either already studied with me or are inthe surf club or are inthe bike club. pretty funny. i am going to make the class really easy and fun and slow. i sure hope they like it !! i saw their book for English class and boy, someone is mean cause they mix up all the verbs and you can't make head or tail out of it. really a shame.

rob and Rich arrived yesterday and they are at the Copa Cabana, which is looking so beautiful, BTW.  Really, they are the first ones to actually stay at the house since the remodel !!  I can't wait to hear their opinion  on it.

well, i decided to take grover;s idea and check out craig's list for bikes and wow !!  i found 3 of them for 40 bucks. mountain bikes. i am thrilled. i am negotiating to see who can head over there and buy them for me and get them to ensenada.  my first choice was derek and a close second is jose at peskayak. jose sent me an email and we are awaiting to see what comes of it all. the owner of the store is not in. they can't accept a credit card over the phone. #$%^&*(  hard to do business when you are so far away !!  I am frustrated. but also very happy that i found these bikes, all in one location.

joaquin stopped by this morning and his porch is done. the scuttlebutt is that some politician gave him some moola to finish and make it better. i think it is only fair since they all ALWAYS go there for meals. he needed to expand and he needed help to make it happen the  way he envisioned it. and it came out really spectacular. INHO.

juanchys also stopped by and informed us that there are now 5 boats that can take people out. this is fantastic. good news. need the details on cost etc.

i wrote to rafa, my son, i need his resume. we are trying to get him a job ata multinational company that can use his talents. he speaks spanish and english and portuguese fluently. that is huge. he is smart and good with people. he will make a great manager. i have left money for him to fly to brazil. economy is booming there. that is where he should ship off to.

the trip home by bus was different this time, I went downtown sandiego to the grayhound and then took a bus straight tot he main bus terminal d epot in TJ, bought a ticket to Vizcaino. had an hour to kill and did emails which was perfecccccccccccct timing.  the bus trip was uneventful. slept off and on. could NOT look out the front window 'cause it was scary to do so !! narrow road, big bus, he was messing with radio channels and opening things to eat, so, I went to sleep and put my life in God's good hands.

les met me in vizcaino and we ate a good lunch, went to the store to buy the mattresses and rope for the clothesline. I have the cheese and meat still frozen and good to go.  I have bike stuff that i bought and brought good to go. nice to be home. we also made a quick stop to buy some plants which I have potted already.

went to the swap meet and was disappointed because i did not find any bikes, - the ones there were far too expensive, so i have written grover and we shall see what he comes up with. he has a sixth sense for sussing out the deals

i did find bed covers and they will sell well in la bocana

had lunch with margaret today and it was great ot catch up with her after almost 4 or more years

the trip down was horrendous. yuck.

el grito has come and gone. we have a mexican family, froends of Marcos's, who say they still have hangovers !!  it is a dada, wife and 2 daughters who can't be more than a year apart ... they both study accounting at a school called UTT - Universidade Tecnologico de Tijuana and they say it is a good school with scholarships. i will be checking into it

they had never heard that mero should be a protected species of fish. they went to the g negro fishing tournament and the wife was the only woman who entered and the only woman, obviously, who caught a mero !! black sea bass. it was a 50 kilo fish and she did it all herself - accepting help from  no one !!

gary stopped by for a quick minute. he had computer problems and ended up returning his computer. you get what you pay for. end of story there.

i will have to be going to san diego for a couple days to cash my check. havent decided exactly when to do it ... probably this monday. which means i should leave sat or sunday and it will be a hectic trip !!

finished a translation for regina and it came out good. she was happy, they were happy. and i got the full payment this time :)    I was so lcuky to get ont he ocmputer at the exact minute regina had them on the phone and was trying to contact me

we got 4 more guests today -0 a husband wife and 2 daughters. they are here for the tournament - just arrived from tj and i sent them to yolie's to eat dinner.  they stayed for quite a while, so I guess the food was good (it always is).

i heard from margaret again and her son is lining in san clemente and she bought a house to be close to him. he has a girlfriend and they are going to have a baby. she will be a grandma. her sister died of pancreatic cancer. very sad.

Nini is in the hospital and i miss that lady already ... such a fun person ... so remarkably professional for all those years ... wish she had trained me to be a school director - she had to be one of the best the wchool has ever had

bob and jerry are here still and they fish every day. they are perfect guests. they come, they know the scoop, they love la bocana. i love having them. they have been eating at joaquins a lot !!

Wiley n Carol left today - they went fishing in the morning on Bocanita, early. Then they stopped by and left a little oafter 8:30. Caoline's line was: with a mattress like the one we slept on last night, who needs a man !! ahahaha, it is a wonderful mattress. Everyone loves it.  I actually invited them to stay another day, but Caroline was ready to go home.

I got anote from Shari and someone told her they did not need bracelets here in Bocana, so not true, so I have to push the coop to get some pronto for everyhone who comes fishing.  I had just asked Nacho about it a couple days ago and he said it was being handled. Turns out that even someone who is kayak fishing needs a bracelet - makes sense - but I never even thought about it !!

Bob and Jerry have arrived. They brought us so much stuff .. both donated  and what we requested. Cheese for Les (he is hooked on cheddar), my file cabinet which had 12 school notebooks for the kids, probably 30 tennis balls, clothes for Linda's new grandchild,  2 overhangs for towels on doors, our mail,  2 baseball mitts. It was heavy even tho it is only 2 drawers !!!  I am thrilled - we also got a new bike donated by Jerry's granddaughter and 2 shorts for Les and 3 sufrboards !!!

Life is good life is great

Mom is in Rio and sounds better. according to mom, Bruna is as lost as ever. So sad. She should make her life there. She is so smart and with her English could make a killing anywhere and be successful and happy :))))))

Elias came over to pick up tons of baseball stuff that Jerry brought - someone in San Diego donated all if it - baseball bats and balls and protective equipment - LOTS OF GOODIES.

I also heard from Margaret in San Diego, it has been over 4 years since I saw her - I just lost contact, my bad, my bad.

The wind howls outside - I just love it -  it keeps the bugs far far away !!  no mosquitoes, no flies and best of all, no gnats. Those pesky creatures drive me nuts.

we have had a busy morning. wiley and carol are here and will spend the night with us. scott stopped by and will probably meet them fishing in the morning - wiley intends to go to bocanita. scott is the expert as to shore fishing.  some meat truck stopped by and they have meat from sonora and will come back with some samples for us.

it is a spectacular day for us here in Bocana .... just as usual .... sun is bright, breeze is gentle, it is hot in the sun and cool in the shade :)

I don't know what to do about Rex - he is now obsessed with moving the ricks in the front garden and he is pawing at the plants.  not OK.  the problem may be that we added so much dirt to the front and now he has to go really far out in order to sniff, and Rex is all about sniffing !!

so, we will have one kid to put thru college first and that will be Nacho.  he wants to study sports medicine - fine choice and very apropos since he is so into sports. my goal is to have as many countries as possible participating !!

it is a gorgeous day here ..... the sun is shining and the wind is gentle.

Les made a stupendous lunch and we had Nacho and Linda over. Her son is going to have a girl and her name will be Allison Fernanda. Herli is going to have a boy and she hasn't named him yet.

Carol and Wiley were in Asuncion and had a meal at the Tidepool.  Maybe they will come back our way ?

New people join BajaNOmad every day, it is just amazing.  And some people have been on it for ages - sure wish I had listened to Tony and joined years ago. I find the information invaluable.  Such a great resource. Someone was saying that we should have a site only for Baja Sur. I persoanlly find this absolutely absurd.  Why would you rule out people who deal with live in know about Baja Sur just because they deal with know about live in Baja Norte ???  I don't get it. Whatever ....

I havent heard from my son marc in a while - maybe i will give him a holler now....Rafa - the other son - hasnt been in touch either.  jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez louissssssssssssssssssssssssse kids will be kids I guess ... I just miss them a lot !!

It is Bryn's birthday today and Carol and Wileys 56th wedding anniversary. wow ... that is something huge to commemorate !

got information on the scholarship program and wrote to them asking for a ton  of information. we can not join forces with them since they do not cover la bocana - well, now that i think about it, if he is mulege area then we are too covered ... i will have to get back to him on that.  but the bottom line is, they have all the experience and that will make my life a million times easier !!

today we went to vizcaino with poncho - tungui - jesus - julian could not go as he is preparing for the mexican independence day celebration and instead we took pablito.  he is such a cool child. he is sweet and not pretentious altho his parents are quite well off. he has a quad, no one else does. he has cash to burn. no one else does. and he just fits right in and rides along with the rest.  so wonderful that his mom let him go at the last minute.  he was ready within 15 minutes :)

it was so hot in vizcaino.  they went riding. i had a huge Rio beach umbrella which I opened up and the boys fixed onto the tree for me !! lots of shade but still HOT. I read my book.  They rode - came back for water - drode some more - sat int he shade with me and then Les came back full of his shopping. so we all were happy !!  only thing missing were the mattresses for the 3 single beds he will be making - the  guys told him they wd be in next week.

edith called and we had an intersting conversation. last week the director of the high schooll needed the minibus for the kids to go to a multicultural fair in la paz. she had too many kids for just one bus, so she had the EXACT SAME problem I had 2 weeks ago. no one would call her back - not the delgado nor his wife.  and when she managed to get his daughter's cell and the daughter finally got  thru - the delegado told her THE BIKE CLUB WOULD BE USING THE MINIBUS. out right lie.  edith new it was not true and told her to push the issue.  Daina did and they got the minibus. can u believe it ????????????????  I am livid and I mean really upset til now about the whole lie.  so, once I become a mexican citizen, I will work with all my soul to get the man removed. he is not helping la bocana. he just isnt.   he told me that the baseball club needs the van on the 25th.  i know for a fact that this is a lie too.

i wrote to tuly to see if she can find out when the fishing tournament is. no one seems to be concerned that the date is next month and nothing is being promoted !!  how can folks plan ahead and make it a really exciting event if they find out only a week beforehand when it will be $%^&*() !!

Wiley and Carol - one of the coolest couples on the block.  So 60ish !!!  like old hippies who just kept up thier lifestyle. i loved that they are open and honest about life. we cant afford to live in the states. i retired young at 50, and poor.  he loves to drive.  he is deaf and no hearing aid - come on Wiley !!!  time to get one !  she fell on our fornt step and I about had a heart attack - it is one of my worst fears.  i hate that step. actually, mom hates that step too. if you are yound, the step gets mprinted immediately. if you are older, it just doesnt sink in cause it is in such a horrible and unexpected place inthe house. i dont like that step and we have started duscussing possible alternatives.  major remodel job but if it makes the world (our house) a sater place, I am for it !!

jerry and bob have our stuff - mail  and file cabinet and bug spray  and the list goes on and on ... we owe them bigtime !!!!  they are bringing bikes too yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

stopped by yolie and freddy's house and got caught up a little on news. they want all the bikes to stay at there house, but I think that we need to believe in the boys and let them carry some of the responsiblity for caring for the more expensive and nicer bikes ....

tomorrow we go to vizcaino for them to run thru the trail.  that way they will be prepared for the race at the end of the month !!  I think we will go without the big van - every kid will have someone in his family take him or her. there is no more baseball, so that is not a problem.

the delegado wants to charge us for doing carwashes - which we can't do since we dont make that much to start with. that being the case, I went to talk to Chuey at the tire store and they can do carwashes there on Sundays when he is not open. this is fantastic.

today we are expecting WILEY  and  CAROL from la paz.  and they will have dinner at Joaquin's.

hopefully Jerry and Maureen hooked up. she said she left all the stuff on the front porch. there is the file for the water company, our mail and a mattress cover.

I have been working really hard on the web page for la bocana.  pics and news and it is coming together really nicely !!

then I have Julio's beautiful jewelery to sell as well. busy lady here !!!!!

next 20th I start teaching English at the school. all the money will go for the club :))))))))))

New blogsite. New beginnings. Lots of news today and everyday !!

We are working on getting kitesurfers and bikers kayakers and birdwatchers to come to La Bocana. I am putting together a new website that is going to be stupendous - I am basing it on Bahia Asuncion's site which is awesome.

FISHING NEWS; GROUPER AND WHITE SEA BASS. we had some fried white seabass today and it was so good. wish it could have been grilled but the skin was off. Tanks Sammy and Manny and Victor and Tio for the fish !!!!!
